Shortly before we all went into lockdown, Philip Carmel gave a talk at a Shabbat Kiddush about the origins and historical context of Hasidism and specifically, the role of the Baal Shem Tov.

Here, in the second part of this series, Philip will discuss the evolution of Hasidism into a wider popular movement, expanding across Jewish communities in Eastern Europe in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

We look forward to yet another fascinating perspective on this subject – join us on Zoom.
